Tuân is an engineer in a Japanese company with the dream to pursue higher education in developed countries. Majoring in computer science, he knows that his biggest barrier to his life’s goal is English. English, especially speaking English is the inevitable tool to successfully survive and study with mountain-load assignments and projects during his higher academic development.

As a teacher and a friend, I have a great compliment to Tuân for his persistence and hard-work. Travelling over 20 kilometers from District 7 to Binh Thanh for the speaking course and always be at class 15 minutes in advance, he melted my heart and became the excellent example for students to learn as an individual. Starting class with quite weak pronunciation, he ended up after 3 months with significant changes in a short time. Even though the course ended, I always advice Tuân to keep moving on, keep practicing as he is on the way to get the core value of pronunciation and speaking English. Good things take time. I built him the foundation, but he himself has to build a beautiful castle on that ground.

Here is the final exam performance of Tuân, and I always wish the best to Tuân for his goals and targets.

When I was interviewing all these successful people, they kept telling me how hard they worked. And I remember standing there thinking, “Ah, jeez, another comment about work? Why don’t they tell me the real secret to their success?”When I was interviewing all these successful people, they kept telling me how hard they worked. And I remember standing there thinking, “Ah, jeez, another comment about work? Why don’t they tell me the real secret to their success?”

Trust me. I’ve interviewed over 500 successful people, not one of them said it came easy, even though they were doing what they loved. And we tend to underestimate work and overestimate talent. But in the end, work tops talent.

Many talented people don’t achieve as much success as they could, unfortunately, because they sit back on their talent and never learn to work hard. That’s what happened to Michael Jordan when he first started playing basketball. He had the talent, but he wasn’t putting in the work, and the coach actually cut him from the high school basketball team. Boy, that was a wake-up call. He says, “I was very disappointed. I started working on my game the day after I was cut.” And he soon became the hardest working player in basketball, who made fun of the other players who weren’t working hard. And that hard work is what made him the greatest basketball player of all time.
